Phuket Nightlife Still Changing

Phuket nightlife takes on many different forms. Phuket is one of Thailand's top destinations and as such there is a diverse range of nightspots on the island. Although Phuket nightlife is not quite on the same level as in Bangkok, that doesn't mean that you won't be able to find somewhere to have fun.

Phuket nightlife is at its most lively in Patong. You'll either love Patong or you'll hate it. The bars are loud, the clubs are obnoxious and the streets are crowded. That being said, Patong is cheap and the bars and clubs stay open later than in other parts of Phuket.

Patong is famous for its nightlife. The center of the action is found on Soi Bangla, which is a hive of go-go bars, discos and stage shows. This is Phuket nightlife at its most seedy, but it can be a lot of fun if you go in the right frame of mind.

Generally speaking, the bars and clubs in Patong churn out hip hop and dance music hits. It can all be a bit predictable so don't go expecting something special.

Patong is also known for its girls. Yes, it's true, there are countless bar girls and sex shows in Patong, but the people of Patong make no effort to conceal these facts. Patong is what it is and it's best not to take the whole place too seriously.

Perhaps the most fun that can be had in Thailand is at some of the local clubs. Phuket nightlife is at its most authentic in the small Thai clubs, where you can check out some of the local bands. Phuket Town is probably the best place to sample some Thai-style clubbing.

Also in Phuket Town there are lots of pubs and beer bars and much less of the seedy side of Phuket nightlife.

There are plenty of other areas where you can go and party, but usually they aren't as busy and entertaining as in Patong or Phuket Town. There are a few exceptions scattered around the island in places such as Surin, Kata-Karon and Nai Harn.

The only area that Phuket really lacks anything in in terms of nightlife is serious clubbing. There are a few Phuket clubs where you can hear cutting-edge music, but these are few and far between. However, it is possible to catch electro, techno, breaks, house and more in some Phuket clubs and bars.

Phuket could be a major clubbing destination in Southeast Asia, but the island has a long way to go before it can start competing with the likes of Singapore and KL.

For now, Phuket nightlife has enough depth to keep people entertained, but you feel as if there is more to come. The shining beacon of Phuket nightlife is that there is a great live-music scene around the island. There are lots of bands who can rattle out everything from rock and indie to jazz and blues. If you can get into it, there is a top indie scene in Phuket. Pick up some CDs in a local store to get a feel for the music.

Spending Time at a Muay Thai Training Camp

If you are looking forward to go on a fitness trip then joining a Muay Thai training Camp in Phuket, Thailand would be a great idea. Indulge in an exhaustive training program in a lovely ambiance and get the experience of your life!

If you are martial art lover or if you are planning to take up any combat sport as a hobby then you must visit the tropical island of Phuket in Thailand at least once. Muay Thai is growing as a sport each day and what can be a better place to learn it than the country where it originated from. Though many 'Muay Thai' training camps have come up in other countries as well, still Phuket is considered as a heaven for enthusiasts of this sport. The increasing number of camps in Phuket region shows the mounting popularity not only among the aborigines but also among people coming from all parts of the world.

Spending time at a Muay Thai training camp in Phuket can be exhaustive but at the same time fascinating. Most of the people around you will be involved in kickboxing and other exercises included in Muay Thai for at least 6 hours per day and 6 days per week. When played in the ring it is considered one of the deadliest sports. So you need to be really tough and strong!

So how does a day at such a camp look like? Let us have a close look. A member of a Muay Thai training camp, Phuket wakes up at around 7-8 am and does some warm exercises like skipping, running, weight training and stretching or even yoga.

Next, they are made to do some technical exercises directly linked to the sport such as kickboxing, shadow boxing, heavy bag kicking, clinching and sparring etc. The schedule in most camps is divided into 2 parts 2-3 hours in the morning and 2-3 hours in the evening. When you are a novice it may be a little difficult for you to adjust, but as time goes on, gradually this strenuous schedule will become a part and parcel of your life. The fitness training program includes teaching the trainees ring skills and disciplines which they would require during professional fights.

If you do not plan to take up Muay Thai as a professional activity and are just interested in engaging in this activity as a hobby, training camps in Thailand especially Phuket ensure that they are worth the amount you are spending on them. Some reasons to go for these camps are- weight loss, fitness training, and mental stimulation and even to throw away addictions.

3 months is the ideal time to spend n a Muay Thai training camp to turn into a professional fighter. Even in 1 or 2 months you will be able to observe miraculous results and your physique as well as mental fitness will not go unnoticed once you return to your home.

When you look for a Muay Thai training Thailand, Phuket is a natural choice among locations. Make the right investment by choosing a reputed camp for yourself and enjoy the sun and the wonderful beaches as you train in a Muay Thai Training Camp Phuket.

However, if you are looking for scenic natural beauty unaffected by the hordes of tourists visiting Thailand, then you should visit Mai Khao and Nai Yang, amongst other beaches. They are a short distance away from Patong.

The one factor that makes Patong Beach a favorite among tourists despite its crowd and noise is the kind of facilities that you find here. There is no modern amenity that is unavailable in this beach. This is the reason why people who wish to explore Phuket choose this beach as their base.

Guide to Finding Family Friendly Hotels in Phuket Thailand

While Thailand can be a lot of fun for the whole family, just like any holiday destination throughout the world, if you are traveling with children or teenagers, it would be prudent to look into accommodation options that have families in mind, and provide facilities and services to ensure that both parents and kids enjoy their stay.

Below are some things to consider in a family friendly hotel in Phuket.

Kid's Clubs

Just about every hotel and resort on Thailand claims to have a Kid`s Club, sometimes this can just mean a colorfully painted room with a couple of children's DVDs. It`s a good idea to do a bit of investigating to see not only what kind of facilities and activities are available, but which of the activities are included for free and which ones charge extra. Some hotels offer a more extensive and varied schedule, such as the Laguna Beach Resort's rotating two week schedule (ideal for longer stays), while others restrict themselves to repeating similar activities each day.

Things like Playstation or XBox consoles, DVDs, and arts and crafts are pretty much standard in most Kid's Clubs, but families looking for a little more variety might enjoy any of the resorts in the Laguna complex of resorts that offers exciting activities at the Quest Laguna Phuket Adventure facilities.

Finding a hotel or resort that offers something for both young children and older kids is a smart move, especially if you have teenagers. With filtered internet connected computers and more age appropriate activities and games, the JW Marriott Resort & Spa and the Holiday Inn Phuket Resort is great for teenagers visiting with families.

Kids and the whole family will surely be enthralled by baby elephants, which can be found at some hotels including the above mentioned Laguna Beach Resort. Baby elephant rides are available several times a day for children staying at this resort, as well as the chance to enjoy supervised water fun with these amazing creatures.

Family friendly rooms.

While hotel  rooms in Thailand are generally quite large compared to similarly priced accommodation in other countries, interconnecting rooms for families can still make a hotel stay more enjoyable for the whole family.

Such rooms are not that difficult to find, however some hotels go further with specially designed rooms that really make your stay more comfortable.  The Holiday Inn Phuket Resort offers kid`s suites, their "room within a room", providing children with their own private space with fun facilities like bunk beds, their own TV and video games.  Or, you can opt for a family suite with rooms that connect to special rooms designed with kids in mind.

These rooms come equipped with a beanbag, toy box, video games, video and TV. Rooms such as these have a way of significantly reducing the stress on both parents and their children. Parents can relax in their own section, while taking comfort in knowing that their children are safe in the next room out of harms way, and can play how they like in their room.

Child minding services

It would be a shame to go all the way to the tropical paradise that is Thailand and not be able to take some time for yourself to relax by the pool, or have a romantic dinner without having to take care of your children for at least one night. It would be great if you were  able to do so knowing that your children are being safely watched by someone that is trustworthy. For the most part, Kid's Clubs at hotels and resorts usually accept children from 4 years old and above. For children younger than that, you may consider having a babysitter take care of your child for a short time while you have dinner of take a dip. While a lot of hotels and resorts offer babysitting, both in the Kid's Clubs during the day and in your room in the evenings, Evason Phuket & Six Senses Spa goes one further and actually offers overnight "sleepover" services, a closely supervised overnight child minding service for children of all ages.

The golf course at the Loch Palm Golf Club is extremely popular with especially local residents and expats and has recently been completely renovated. Loch Palm is recognized to be one of the leading Thai courses and it is a eighteen hole, par seventy two golf course. It is also home to the largest lake found at any of the courses. Players can find this course rather challenging due to the various height differences on the course.

Phuket Country Club

The Phuket Country Club is home to the oldest golf course on on the island. It is located in the center of the island in the Kathu area. It is the favorite golfing destination on this Thai island among expats due to the affordable green fees and membership fees. If you have a high handicap then te Country Club could be the ideal one for you to visit during your holiday.

Leasing Apartments In Phuket Almost As Good As Buying

Can leasing apartments in Phuket be as good as purchasing freehold? Many people believe so because there have been many apartments recently. Current Thailand law allows you to lease an Apartment for 30 years and have two extensions. This allows the purchaser to hold the property in their name for 90 years.

Freehold means that when you purchase you own the apartment in your own name. This is done by an apartment project in Phuket only selling up to 49% of the apartments to foreign owners. If a project is 50 units, the project developers would sell 24 as freehold and 26 as leasehold or to Thai owners. This sounds pretty complicated but setting this up is really very simple.

Leasing a piece of land is a very different story. In order to lease the land, it has to be registered at the local or-bor-tor office and it's a good idea to also register it at the land office. Some people like to lease land because they may not have to commit a lot of money. The terms can be to pay money every year. This can turn against the lease if he ever builds on the land and tries later to sell the property.

Leasing a property like an apartment is usually set up very different. If you lease through a real estate agent or broker they usually have a standard contract for a lease. Have a lawyer give you advise when signing a lease contract. This is to make sure your rights and interests are protected.

One big disadvantage of a lease is it might be hard to extent the lease after the first 30 years is expired. This is because the law reads that you must extend the lease every 30 years by the original land owner. It's even been know that original land owner may refuse the second 30 years lease even though they promised it in the first contract.

One option to leasing land was to set up a company and have the company own the land. In my opinion this option is no longer viable because the land offices are checking these shaky companies that have no purpose other than owning land. The door to owning houses or apartments in Thai companies is no longer open.

Apartments in Phuket can be bought freehold if you can find a property that is still freehold to buy into. Most properties like this are sold out under preconstruction and jonnie come lately has to pick at what units are left if any. If your plan is to purchase a unit that's 100% finished and ready to be moved it to you will find you will get the very worse units in the project. Even these units may not be available as freehold and leasing them may be the only option.

If the property investor is willing to take high risks, he can purchase a nice unit on preconstruction. The risk one takes if the project will ever start and more importantly, will it ever finish. If the project sells well and finishes within a year or two of planned completion date, the investor was lucky and has a nice unit to be proud of.

In closing, Apartments in Phuket can be a great investment if the owner is a careful shopper and weighs all factors when purchasing an apartment. Not only location, quality of construction and view are important. One must look at the ownership and the value that it will or may have 30 years down the road. Leasing in Phuket in lieu of owning an apartment unit freehold may be an option for the investor who is willing to take some calculated risk.

There are a number of major diving destinations in Thailand, all offering a wide selection of diverse dive sites. Throughout all of these major destinations is a network of well equipped, knowledgeable and experienced dive centres, offering a range of diving from leisure dives through to a selection of scuba diving courses.

It would be impossible to discuss Thailand, without looking at the scuba diving in Phuket and the surrounding areas. Without doubt, the diving in Phuket is of the highest standard, and the waters surrounding the 'island' host a number of excellent dive sites. However, the real underwater treasures of Phuket lie slightly further afield. Dive sites such as the Burma Banks, The Similan Islands and the Mergui Archipelago are often found high on the wish list of many discerning scuba diver and offer some of South East Asia's finest dive sites.

The scuba diving on the Western Gulf of Thailand sees a different emphasis, and the small islands found here have become one of the world's most popular areas to learn to scuba dive. In fact, the island of Koh Tao has developed a complete tourist industry from scuba diving, and today large numbers of would be scuba divers travel to Koh Tao every day to begin their diving education. Other islands within the Western Gulf of Thailand are also home to developed scuba diving industries, and destinations such as Koh Samui and Ko Pha-Ngan are both home to a large number of dive centres and excellent dive sites.

Throughout Thailand there are a number of exceptional dive sites, and sites such as the Richelieu Rock and Chumpon Pinnacle are widely acknowledged as being world class dive sites. However it is the sheer volume of excellent dive sites that makes Thailand such a popular destination. Destinations such as Pattaya, Krabi, Ko Chang and the Surin Islands are all home to a number of exceptional dive sites and dive centres.

Today, Thailand is one of the world's most popular scuba diving destinations, and large numbers of scuba divers travel long distances to dive in the waters surrounding this stunning country. Teenagers' English Summer Camp - Leisure & Study

A vacation in Phuket Island is indubitably a wonderful idea to appreciate the white sand beaches and clear waters of Thailand in family. While adults are taking a rest, teenagers certainly want more fun activities of their own. An English summer camp in a reputable International school in Phuket is a great possibility as teenage children can have fun being with other youths while their parents enjoy more freedom.

These summer camps are usually for non-English speakers who learn English in addition to the practice of sports like football, swimming, tennis and golf. There are of course other options oriented more on sports for native English speaker teenagers. Phuket is the ideal place in Thailand for a summer camp. All the teens that participate in a camp are delighted and do not regret any minute to be there.

These camps are very educative with lessons and activities every day. When the children arrive at the International Phuket airport, a few teachers are present to welcome and drive them to the school by van. There are a few very big facilities with wide green areas including football pitches and several indoor halls for other sports. There are also swimming pools, generally a small pool for kindergarten and primary children, and a large pool for secondary children.

A summer camp is not only a solution to occupy children during a family trip, but a unique experience for young people who can be sent alone to Phuket and be very well taken care of by the school organizing the summer camp. There, they can meet friends of their age of different nationalities and have fun lessons like cooking in addition of the language classes. It is certainly a wonderful learning experience.

A camp generally has 30 students for a two weeks camp. During these summer camps, the teenagers have English classes normally in the morning and evening provided in classrooms with different proficiency levels. The classes are punctuated with snacks and drinks every two hours, and sport activities like basketball, badminton or football are organized in the afternoon.

Some activities for teenagers can also be arranged for shorter terms like a week or on a daily basis in some smaller schools or organizations. Kayaking, yachting, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet skiing and banana boat riding are great water sports that teenagers will enjoy on their own. And for those teenagers who want to stay with their parents, there are always a multitude of fun activities that can be enjoyed together as a family.

Participating in a English summer camp in Phuket can be a memory of a lifetime for many teenagers who will go back home with new friendships made. Phuket has top international facilities and schools that can accommodate parents and teenagers alike.

Fruits From Thailand

It is said that Thailand is a real paradise for fruit lovers and one can find an incredible variety of fruits all over Thailand. Thailand is abundant in fruits and it serves as one of the most important revenue generators for the country. A great number of fruits can be easily found at the numerous fruit shops, supermarkets and market places. The fruits that are available here are much cheaper when compared to other countries. Sometimes fruit sellers end up offering tourists fruits to taste for free. This practice is more prevalent on beaches where the tourists spend most of their holidays.

Traditionally, the Thais finish a meal with fruits. Sweeter Thai desserts are kept for snacking in between meals. A Thai breakfast normally comprises of variety of fresh fruits and traditional sweets. Besides being delicious and healthy, eating fresh fruits after a Thai meal is sure way of putting off the burning sensation in the mouth after eating spicy Thai food.

In Thailand, fruits are generally sweet including those which are suppose to be sour. One of the best fruit producing places in Thailand is Phuket Island. It is noted for its pineapple. Pineapples grown here are famous throughout Thailand and are particularly sweet and crunchy. They are also a major export product. Fruits like Rambutan, Bananas, Papaya, Durian, Guava and Mangoes are also grown in Thailand. Recently, several temperate fruits like Apples, Strawberries and Peaches are being grown successfully in the mountain areas of Thailand. The farmers always concentrate on growing more fruits using new methods of cultivation. This ensures that Thailand never faces a shortage of fruits in any season of the year.

Furniture Done Right is Inviting

Years ago we decided to upgrade the size of our home and add a little property. We have four boys who needed space to run and play and we wanted a little property where they wouldn't bother the neighbors with their scooters, mopeds, bikes and overall noise. It was a very enlightening process. I was shocked at how some people keep their houses, especially when their homes were for sell.

We could hardly find the floor to walk on in a couple of the houses, and these were gorgeous, new, expensive homes. I remember one home in particularly, where I think the parents gave each child a can of paint and looked the other way. One wall started in one color, another unfinished in another with no continuity or flow to the home, the design, the paint or especially the furniture, when you could see it. We had to keep reminding ourselves we weren't buying the homes furnished, but it was difficult to see the forest for the trees.

On the other hand, we saw homes that didn't have as stunning a floor plan, as many details in the design or as much square footage, but they were clean and inviting and beautifully furnished. So rich and luscious. We again had to remind ourselves that these furnishing didn't come with the house. We just had to stick to floor plans and property. It was difficult.

We did notice that furniture in Tom's River varied greatly as to quality, design and continuity. Some people just have a flare for decorating. A large and well laid out house can look cheap and simple home done right can be stunning and classy with the right furniture.

Patong Girls Are Too Hot to Handle

Patong night life has something of an interesting reputation. For many, the main attraction of nightlife in Patong is the Patong girls, who are as lively as they are prominent. No matter how people try to gloss over the nightclub scene in Patong, you only need to take a stroll through Soi Bangla to get an idea what the place is about.

There has been some speculation that the local government has been trying to make Patong more family friendly, but it's difficult to envisage such an outcome if you look at the current state of Patong. It's no secret that a lot of people base their entire trips to Phuket around the Patong girls. It's easy to be critical of the whole scene in Patong, but it is what it is and these people do what they have to do to stay afloat.

It hasn't always been like this, though. Twenty years ago, Patong was nothing but mud tracks and beach huts. As one of the first major attractions in Phuket, development in Patong soon took on a life of its own. First came the guesthouses and hostels, followed by the throngs of backpackers and then came the more high-end resorts. All the while, though, there have been the Patong girls.

Many people are unhappy with the direction that Patong has taken. There is no denying that overdevelopment has left Patong a cluttered, uneven mess that is really struggling to stamp its identity in Phuket. Most tourists end up at Patong simply because it's the most visited place on the island, which is usually a surefire sign of somewhere discerning travelers will try and avoid.

Speak to most visitors to Phuket and they will tell you tales of woe experienced in Patong, often after being scammed by the Patong girls. Tricksters are everywhere in Patong. The nature of the place is that it tends to suck dry unsuspecting tourists, so it's best to have your wits about you while in Patong.

Bottom line is that you should not trust anybody. Even leaving money unattended in a hotel safe is not, well, safe. Street hawkers are everywhere and you'll be asked hundreds of times if you want to buy a suit. Remember that Patong is not an ideal place for picking up bargains.

In short, Patong is a fun place where you can get into some wild situations. If you plan on staying in Patong, you should beware that public transport is practically non-existent, so unless you rent some sort of transport, you won't really be able to get around that easily, confining your trip to the charms of Patong. One of the easiest way to get around is to rent a motorbike, but take care while driving at night as there have been a number of attacks on foreigners driving around Phuket.

All these problems aside, Patong is a serious party zone. There are cheap drinks and late nights to be had, which can be a lot of fun if you're in the right frame of mind.

Tips to Book Thailand Hotels at Cheap Prices

Thailand is a hotspot tourist destination that lies in Southeast Asia. It has several places of tourist interest, such as Bangkok, Pattaya, Koh Samui, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Koh Phangan. Since there are so many things to do and places to see in this beautiful country, you need to spend at least a week here to enjoy your trip. In addition to these Thailand top destinations, one can enjoy a variety of local shows and events in Thailand while he or she is there. These include events such as Thailand fullmoon party, and many others that can be enjoyed while on a holiday in Thailand.

While making long vacation trips, the main concern of travelers is high hotel rates.

You can book Thailand hotels at affordable rates by following the below mentioned tips:

Online Booking

Thailand hotel booking can easily be done through online reservation portals. Booking early may help you get discounts. Early bookings also help you get the hotel as well as room of your choice. Hotels in Thailand give special discount to companies that offer online reservation and these companies pass on the same to their customers.

Free Services

While booking hotels and resorts in Thailand, you should pay attention to the complementary services offered by them, besides the room rates. Sometimes if you pay a little extra for the room rent, the deal may turn out to be cheaper if you get complementary services, such as free meals, free spa, or free use of gymnasium. The cost of these services is high and can add substantially to your cost of stay. Therefore, you should take into consideration the total cost before finalizing the deal. If the Thailand hotel that you want to book is not offering discount, you can request them to offer free services.

Off-Season

This is surely the most popular way to reduce your expenses on hotel stay. If you plan your holiday to Thailand during the off-season, you may get even the top hotels Thailand at cheap rates. The rainy season from July to October, is the lean tourist time in Thailand. You may even get discounts if you book Thailand hotels for weekdays, instead of weekends, when local tourists throng the places and the demand for hotels goes up drastically.

Package Deals

Package deals include the return airfares, hotel stay, sightseeing, and even meals sometimes. If you book a package, the overall cost of your trip will be quite lower than if you book your air tickets and Thailand hotels separately. However, in this case, you have to follow the itinerary of the package. Hence you need to check the package deal carefully before booking. Some package deals include only stay at hotel and meals. For example, if you are planning to stay at different places, such as Bangkok and Pattaya, during your visit to Thailand, you can get a discount by booking a package of a hotel chain. Customers who book Thailand hotels from the same group of hotels at different locations get good discounts.

Group Bookings

If you plan to go on vacation with your family and friends in a group, you can save money. If you book hotels in Thailand for a group, you may get great Thailand hotel lowest room rates for yourself.

A little planning can help you book Thailand hotels at affordable prices. If you are planning your vacation at the last moment, do not lose heart. You can still book hotels at cheap rates, as many online hotel reservation websites offer hotel bookings at low prices.

Some foreign nationals who would like to visit Thailand for a period not exceeding 30 days can enter the country without a visa provided that they hold a return ticket with them. Thai Marriage - Visa Application Inside Thailand

Ordinary expats in Thailand wishing to extend their stay in the kingdom may find it difficult fitting themselves in the various Thai visas offered by the Thai government. However, those who are married to Thai locals have got little to worry about.

Marriage Visa in Thailand

Immigration privileges are among the countless benefits of being married to a Thai.

A foreign spouse of a Thai national is entitled to apply for a Thai marriage visa aka Non Immigrant Category O visa. This particular Thai visa can be applied for immediately after marriage, subsequently allowing the foreign spouse a renewable yearly stay in Thailand. Fortunately, the process for the Thai Marriage Visa application is rather straightforward and the requirements are quite minimal.

The most important requirements when applying for a marriage visa to Thailand are; you are married to a Thai national and you or your Thai spouse is financially capable of supporting your stay in Thailand. To prove your on-going marital relationship with your Thai spouse, you have to show the original of your marriage certificate and have your Thai spouse accompany you when submitting the visa application as the visa officer will be interviewing her about your marriage. This is especially required when doing the visa application inside Thailand. On a positive note, medical certificate and police record are no more required when Thai Marriage Visa application is done in Thailand.

Financial Requirements

As far as the financial requirements for marriage visa in Thailand are concerned, there are two ways to meet them. One is to open a bank account, deposit 400,000 Baht into it and then wait for at least two months prior to making the Thai marriage visa application. The 2nd option is to show a proof of 40,000 Baht monthly /pension income. To do this, you need to obtain a pension/ employment letter stating your job or source of your pension and monthly income. This you bring to your embassy in Thailand for verification. Your embassy in turn will provide you an affidavit of income which you use for the visa application. In addition to this document, you may be required of your income tax and latest bank statements by the Visa officer. In case you don't qualify for the income requirement but your Thai spouse is, she can just as well handle the financial requirements. She just needs to present employment letter and income tax if she's employed and business registration certificate, balance sheet and business tax if she's self-employed.

Application Process

The actual application procedure is simple. An applicant who has 21 days left in his/her current visa can apply a 90 day visa initially then have this visa converted into One year Marriage visa before it expires. Those who have non immigrant Thai visa can proceed to visa conversion directly as soon as their visa is due to its expiration. You and your Thai spouse can go to the nearest Thai immigration with your documents to proceed with the visa application. Those who are not qualified to do the Marriage visa application in Thailand because of their invalid current visas can go to bordering countries to secure new entry visas and then apply marriage visa in Thailand as appropriate.

Summary

Obtaining the Thai marriage visa can be accomplished by following the guidelines outlined above. If you have yet to marry your Thai fiancee you should research the laws and procedures for Marriage Registration in Thailand for your respective nationality.

Phuket - A Tropical Wonderland

Phuket Island is famous for it beaches but it's more than just beaches. Thailand's largest island is a wonderland of wildlife and rainforests. I discovered a part of Phuket Island which is often overlooked by tourists, number of forest reserves and parks, along with exotic wildlife and beautiful waterfalls.

I spent a couple of days in Khao Phra Thaeo National Park located in the north of Phuket which is a triple canopy rainforest. It is the only remaining virgin rainforest on the island. It was a rare opportunity to watch a number of species of wild animal: langurs, barking deer, mouse deer, bears, wild boar, monkeys and gibbons. It was truly an amazing experience as the park conserves about one hundred species of birds which inhabit the forest vegetation, which consists of huge trees, creepers and climbers of every description. During rainy season hikes provide the best views of Ton Sai and Bang Pae waterfalls, with great sightings of resident wildlife such as flying foxes and slow Loris. The reserve has several forest trails for hiking and guides are easily available from the reserve office near Ton Sai waterfall.

Bangkok Red Light District Guide - Where to Go and Where to Stay

Bangkok Thailand has the craziest red light districts in the whole of Southeast Asia. Millions of visitors from all over the world have experienced the people, sights and sounds that permeate throughout Bangkok. It's an indescribable feeling and you'll only know what I'm talking about as soon as your feet hits the outside pavement of the airport.

It's obvious that most visitors who come to Bangkok are male. But because of the Thai people's laid back sensibilities they have no problems at all with gay or lesbian tourist who are now enjoying Bangkok's red light districts in droves.

The city of Bangkok has three distinct red light districts located relatively close to each other. These establishments sprang up and rapidly became popular during the early 1970's towards the end of the Vietnam war.

The first and oldest red light district is found on the Sois (or "Street" to us foreigners) of Patpong 1 and Patpong 2. Patpong 1 being the more popular Soi because that's also where you find the Night Market. Personally if you find something you have to have then bargain hard. Otherwise I'd save my money and shop at Chatuchak Weekend Market. Stuff sold at Patpong's Night Market are just way expensive. Surrounding the Night Market are the infamous go-go bars and ping pong sex shows that make Patpong so famous. The best hotels to stay in this area are the Montien Hotel, Silom Serene, Bally's Suite Silom and Siam Heritage Suites. None of these hotels are guest friendly however.

The next two red light districts are found running through Sukhumvit road. The names are Nana and Soi Cowboy. Nana intersects Sukhumvit road and after 7pm you'll find hordes of freelance prostitutes gathering outside the Nana Hotel parking lot at the entrance of Nana Entertainment Plaza. NEP is a 3 story building filled with the delights of sex and booze. Definitely a must visit.

Soi Cowboy is the smallest red light district but it packs a punch with establishments such as Long Bar and Rawhide. Those two go-go bars have been around for a while and still going strong.

Now most tourist who travel to Bangkok will most likely plan on bringing a companion back to their rooms. If that's you, then you should book a hotel that is "Guest Friendly Hotel". You may have heard of other terms such as girl friendly or no joiner fee hotels. Because if you don't stay in a guest friendly hotel, you will be charged a minimum of 500THB joiner fee by hotel management.

The majority of guest friendly hotels are found in Sukhumvit, conveniently between the red light districts of Nana and Soi Cowboy. Currently there are none in the Patpong area. However, taxis are cheap, so taking one back to your guest friendly hotel in Sukhumvit is definitely cheaper than paying the 500THB joiner fee.

Thailand Lifestyle Tips - How to Live in Thailand on $600 a Month Or Less

Many travelers, vacationers or retirees have the erroneous belief that if they come to Thailand they'll have to fork out thousands of dollars a month to experience an ideal Thai lifestyle. However, they'd be mistaken. In actual fact you can live a great Thai lifestyle for a lot less than that...

For starters, pretty much everything in Thailand will cost you a LOT less than a similar lifestyle in Europe or USA might cost. But don't just take my word for it. Let these examples (in US$) prove it to you:

o You can enjoy superb high speed Internet (broadband) for under $30 a month.

o You can rent a lovely, 2 story home with huge garden for around about $150 a month (depending where you live of course. Some areas more expensive, and some a lot less!)

o You can go out at night and tantalize your taste buds with a 3 or 4 course Thai dinner for about $15 (depending what you eat of course!)

o Alternatively you can 'eat in' and still eat really well (feel full to the brim after) for a mere $3 (and that's pushing it!)

o You can buy your own zippy little 115 cc Honda or Yamaha automatic motorbike (scooter) for about $1000 - or snap up a used bike for half that. (If you want to brave motorcycle taxis - it'll be anywhere from $1-$15 per trip).

o And as for general living costs, you'd stay right on top of things for about $6-10 a day...

Anyway, I'm sure you get the idea. As you can see, you can live a pretty comfortable Thai lifestyle for a lot less than $600 a month. Even more so if you budget your expenses carefully. Of course, you could just as easily fork out $6000 or $60,000 a month too, if you felt so inclined! So what are you waiting for?

Retire in Thailand - Affordable Retirement in Paradise

Thailand is a favorite retirement location for many westerners and retirees from other parts of the world. Not only is it affordable but it offers so much to the adventurous soul who seeks a place to retire. Thailand has so much beauty everywhere and so many exciting places to visit.

The Most Popular Thailand Retirement Locations Are:

  • Bangkok

  • Pattaya

  • Phuket

  • Chiang Mai

  • South Of Thailand

....that's not all...Retirees also choose other locations in Thailand like: North East Thailand 'Isaan', Chiang Rai, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Khon Kaen, Hua Hin or some of the beautiful Islands in the south of Thailand.

Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao are just a few of the beautiful islands in the south of Thailand with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. If you don't want to live on an island it is nice to have the option of visiting an island for a few days or weeks.

Visiting Thailand for a longer stay before retiring in Thailand is a good way to find out if this is the Paradise for you. Some people come to Thailand for 6 moths to one year to find out if they want to retire in Thailand and find the area of Thailand they like.

There are things about Thailand that may be a little difficult for some to live with. The Thai Visa requirements are confusing but need to be understood. A foreigner can own a condominium in Thailand but not land. As a foreigner you will always be a foreigner.

Thai people treat everyone with respect yet they will always refer to you as farang -foreigner- which is not meant to insult you but it is deeply engrained in Thai people and it is the way they refer to white people.

The list of good things about Thailand is seemingly endless and outweigh the 'negative'. Thai people are one of the most sociable nations on the planet and have an extremely carefree attitude. They love to joke, have fun and eat delicious food.

So, to sum it all up: If you like to see beautiful things and places, have fun, you are laid back, you like to eat delicious and exotic dishes and you would like to have all of that for pennies on the dollar....you may want to consider Thailand as a retirement location.

How Much Money Do You Need In Thailand?

The answer is; how long is a piece of string? There are people who can live very comfortable for well under $ 1,000 a month and then you have people who think $ 5,000 is bare minimum.

There are people who pay $ 100 a month rent for an apartment and are happy and then there are people who own a one million dollar condo and are happy or still think they could have done better.

The Thai Baht and Fluctuating Exchange Rates

For anyone visiting Phuket in Thailand, an obvious point of concern is how much things will cost. Thailand has always been a relatively cheap place to go for a holiday. As a destination, Phuket is favored by everyone from Brits to Israelis. But the global economic crisis coupled with the effects of negative media coverage on Thailand has meant that less people are visiting the country. Yet perhaps bigger problem is today's exchange rate.

When I first arrived in Thailand, about four years ago, the pound sterling was changing at one to 75 baht. That was a decent exchange rate and it meant that my money went far, be it in Bangkok or Phuket. Now, I find myself in Phuket looking at an exchange rate that defies believe. The pound sterling is now trading at one to 52 baht. That's a decline of almost one third in just a few years.

Prices in Thailand have not changed dramatically in that time. Expats living in the country certainly wouldn't have noticed too much of a difference, but for people visiting from the United Kingdom, having one third less to spend than usual is a big change.

It isn't, however, that the baht has become especially strong. What is happening is that the pound is incredibly weak. It's so weak that at the moment it's trading about one for one with the euro, which makes trips to Europe unappealing for any British people. The Brits are staying home. Money is tight enough as it is without the exchange rates working against people.

The Americans are in a similar situation. The dollar has typically been trading at about one to 35 baht in the past few years. Right now, it's down to one to 22 baht. Again, that's a decline of about one third. Ultimately, people will travel to Thailand regardless of political turmoil and internal squabbling. But these people are not going to travel if they don't have the money to do so.

With it being so close to 50 baht to the pound, changing money from sterling to baht is almost financial suicide. Conversely, it's not a bad time for British people to be paid in baht. As an example, I recently wired a large sum of baht to the UK at an exchange rate of 52 baht to the pound. That's about as low as it is going to get and it's difficult to trust the baht in the long run, whereas the pound is a traditionally strong currency.

For all of us in Phuket and the rest of Thailand, we can only hope that 2009 brings more favorable exchange rates against the baht. The pound and the dollar have taken some really big knocks this year and it couldn't have come at a worse time. The tourism industry in Phuket needs all the help it can get at the moment, but some things are out of the control of the island and its people.

What You Need to Know Before Renting Out a Home in Phuket

Phuket is experiencing a very positive response to the private home or apartment rental market. This accommodation segment has only really come to the foreground since 2000 when a few intrepid developers realised the potential of Phuket in the international housing market. Phuket has long been a popular tourist attraction and with the recent improvements in the islands' infrastructure, many regular visitors have decided to purchase homes here.

Similarly, many regular visitors who are familiar with the island find that the facilities offered by the traditional hotels or resorts to be somewhat "cloistered" which can often lead to a feeling that as a visitor, you are not able to experience the local culture to the full. With the current upswing in development in many areas of the island, Phuket is becoming known as a destination where you can take advantage of renting a privately owned home.

There are a number of considerations that need to be taken into account before considering your rental returns.

Owner requirements

When considering the options available to you for rental returns, it is most important that you consider what the motivations for your purchase are. If you would like to occupy the home over the Christmas / New Year holiday period, the rental prospects of the home will decrease significantly. This time of year is by far the most lucrative period for holiday rentals, which yield the best returns.

If you are purchasing the home as an investment property with the view to owning the property for a few years whilst trying to minimise the expenses and eventually sell the home for a profit, the returns under these circumstances can be extremely attractive.

Owners who are willing to maintain a level of flexibility in their occupation will do well when trying to minimise the expenses associated with a holiday home. Should you wish to use your home, you may do so as long as the necessary notice periods are respected. Should the home be available and you would like to visit at short notice, this is, also possible.

Setting up your home for rentals

There are a number of important considerations when setting up your home for rental purposes. Keep in mind that you will be opening the home to total strangers and careful thought should be given before costly purchases are made. Please refer to the sample inventory and handy Phuketvillarentals.com tips.
